Nintendo has been one of the top three gaming powerhouses since the dawn of video game creation, and it’s no surprise that Nintendo is still kicking strong in 2021. Since the release of the Nintendo Switch video game consoles, an estimation of 84+ million units has been sold. I don’t know the exact number, but that’s an insane amount of players gaming across the globe at any one point in time! With the power of Nintendo sweeping across the galaxy, it’s a good idea to reflect on the three different models and limited edition consoles currently available to join in on the fun!
First up on Nintendo Switch Video Game Consoles: Model HAC-001. What made the first model Nintendo Switch so different from previous consoles was the ability to switch between “TV Mode” and “Handheld Mode.” TV Mode allows players to use the big screen at home while the Handheld Mode allowed players to game on the go with the stock tablet-sized screen. The added feature of Sleep Mode also meant you could put the game to rest without exiting the application. The Nintendo Switch was an effective way to literally game anywhere at any time. The first model of the Nintendo Switch released in 2017 and included everything you needed to play:
Each Joy-Con was suitable as a separate controller, allowing up to two players to play together without needing to buy extra controllers. At launch, Joy-Cons were available in gray, or neon red R and neon blue L. Later in the same year of release, Nintendo introduced neon yellow Joy-Con, and then neon green and neon pink Joy-Cons for the special edition of Splatoon 2.
Amiibo accessories were also still accepted, with the scanner being built directly into the right Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Nintendo Switch came with 32GB of internal storage, a portion of which is reserved for use by the system. Users did have the option to expand storage space using microSDXC cards up to 2TB (sold separately). And how much was the bundle of joy? $299.99 USD.

Introducing our second model, the HAC-001(-01). After a two-year run, the original Nintendo Switch was discontinued, replaced by a more effective V2 model. The Nintendo Switch V2 was featured with improved battery life, offering an additional 4-5 hours of gameplay before striking death at 0% compared to the Nintendo Switch V1. Other than the battery life improvement, there are no other recognizable differences between the two models. The Nintendo Switch V2 included everything you needed to play like the V1 and also started at the price of $299.99 USD.
One month after the Nintendo Switch V2 model released to the public, the Nintendo Switch Lite made its debut with the intention of being available to users who love the portability of the Switch but with a more compact and lightweight design. The design of the Lite removed detachable controllers, dock stations, and tabletop mode. However, an extra perk of the Nintendo Switch Lite was a lower cost starting at only $199.99 USD. Nintendo Lite is currently available in five colors: blue, yellow, gray, turquoise, and coral.
Next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are constantly out of stock this year, and Nintendo Switch video game consoles are the same. You might run into higher than average prices for select Switch consoles when browsing sales channels. Be cautious to make sure you don’t overpay for your product!
Commonly referred to as the ACNH edition, this limited edition Nintendo Switch includes a pastel green Joy-Con (L) and a pastel blue Joy-Con (R), white wrist straps, and an ANCH-themed Nintendo Switch dock. Animal Crossing was THE game that connected the world during the pandemic of 2020, so it’s only fair that the ACNH Switch console is a popular and favorable edition among many fans.
Nintendo Switch Fortnite Wildcat BundleDeck out your Nintendo Switch with the unique Fortnite design on the back of the dock, an exclusive yellow Joy-Con (L) and blue Joy-Con (R), Fortnite pre-installed and Wildcat Bundle download code, and 2000 V-Bucks!
The Zacian and Zamazente Nintendo Switch Lite are thematically based on Pokemon Sword and Shield. The limited-edition console comes with a vibrant blue directional pad and left joystick on the left side, and vibrant red/pink ABXY buttons, and right joystick on the right side. The typical dark gray color on the original switch is replaced with a lighter gray that really makes the vibrant colors pop.
Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition – SwitchInspired by Mario, the Mario Red & Blue Edition is decked out with a bold red design on the Nintendo Switch Console, Joy-Con controllers, and the Nintendo Switch dock. A solid blue design is featured on both the Joy-Con grip and Joy-Con wrist straps. As a bonus, the Nintendo Switch bundle includes a Mario red & blue carrying case adorned with Super Mario iconography.
The Pokémon limited edition for Pikachu and Eevee was very popular and is now discontinued, so good luck and great job if you find one at a decent price! With the console bundle, you’ll earn a Pikachu and Eevee thematic dock with matching Joy-Con controllers, the Poke Ball Plus accessory, and a download code for either the Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! or Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
